I think one of the most underrated and forgotten beautiful moments is the National Anthem before an entertaining event. I’m not proud of what America has become, or even the American Flag on it’s own for that matter. But there’s just something about standing there in reverence, silent, and left with myself that just leaves me thankful for an American birthright. As far as I can see, I sure didn’t deserve to be born here anymore than the boy who lost his family to AIDS on the other side of the planet. I owe it to him to be thankful.
I know there’s the song and all, but how often as Americans are we left with moments of silence like that? While means of communication are at an all-time high, human relationships and value for one another are at an all-time low. Violence, Sex and Greed and spreading like wildfire. Everyones looking out for NUMBER ONE, myself included. How often do we stop and think of our past, of everything the fathers of this country envisioned and died for. Our vision has become pretty blurry.
I hope the tradition of the National Anthem lives on through out the years, because it seems like it’s one of the few moments left in such a busy society that people are actually forced to stop and think for a minute. Left with our own thoughts.
“All the problems of the world stem from the inability of humans to sit still in a chair and think for 10 minutes.” -Blaise Pascal
